Modernisation of power plant Block 8

UNIS is involved in a project to supply a waste heat boiler (HRSG) with fresh air firing for the German company Vulkan Energiewirtschaft Oderbrücke GmbH (VEO) as part of the construction of power plant unit 8. UNIS elaborated design documentation in the I&C and electrical sections. UNIS is thus assisting for its subsidiary UNIS Power which was awarded the contract.

2024

The plant is located on the Arcelor Mittal area in Eisenhüttenstadt.

Following a previous investment of 55.5 million euros in power plant unit 7, which was completed on schedule (2013) and within its original budget, VEO is embarking on another project of similar size - the construction of a new power plant unit 8. The Eisenhüttenstadt-based energy service provider is thus continuing to expand its power plant complex using state-of-the-art technology.

CHALLENGES FOR THE FUTURE

The project has several challenges. One of them is the integration of the new technology into the existing infrastructure with a lot of layout constraints. In addition to using the combustion turbine flue gas, the boiler itself will also be operated with supplementary combustion, both natural gas and blast furnace steel gas, including combinations of the two depending on the metallurgical operations. Long-term and low-cost electricity and heat supply is of great importance for both the city and the steel producers. A modern and environmentally friendly energy supply is an important contribution to securing the steel industry in Eisenhüttenstadt in the future.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUPPORT

The new combined cycle power plant unit will meet all environmental requirements thanks to the efficient use of the furnace. The new unit will contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions to air, like Unit 7. The major project with an investment volume of EUR 45 million is scheduled for completion in 2023.
